Drama Classes
The Nowra Players have been operating youth drama classes for over fifteen years. Classes are offered to primary and secondary students aged from 8 to 18 years of age.
The classes are conducted by qualified teachers who have educational qualifications to degree level, have experience in staging plays and who have taught drama in schools to HSC level.
Drama is an excellent way to stimulate imagination and creativity in children as well as improving confidence and self esteem. The sorts of activities experienced encourage cooperation, discipline and self expression.
Students in the drama classes are encouraged to audition for Nowra Players productions and, in recent years, have appeared in Jack and the Beanstalk; Guards, Guards; Mother Goose; The Witches; Scrooge the Musical; The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe; and most recently in Aladdin. 2011 will see Nowra Players present a mid-year pantomime which the students will have the opportunity to audition for. The drama students also hold class presentations for family and friends at least once a year.
In addition, the Players host and sponsor the Shoalhaven Youth Drama Awards, an annual event (usuaaly near the end of term 3 at school) where students from local schools perform dramatic pieces before a guest judge. Prizes are awarded in several categories including best individual and group pieces.
