NARNIA NONSENSE

Excuse me, but I’ve got something to say.

You see, every time I’m in a play

I have an urge I cannot resist

To write a poem and take the gist.

So here it is - perchance an editorial

Written from a stance professorial.

President Ben directed this episode

With help from Darren along the road

And Anji who is clearly in production mode.

Sue Willis with eyes beady

Was a formidable Mrs Macready.

And when it came to the food

She changed meal times to suit her mood.

Harmony as Lucy was first wardrobe inside

And took it all in her stride.

Edmund was a cheeky Turkish Delight brat.

Of course Stuart’s not at all like that.

Jessica played peacekeeper Susan,

Who tries to be protective if she can.

Peter the eldest was a worthy lord,

But Liam kept forgetting to wipe his sword.

And goodness gracious us,

Billy the kid was a lovely Tumnus,

With a rendering on his flute.

How did he manage to get into that suit?

Lawrence perfected his eager beaver walk.

I don’t think I could do that without the aid of a

cork!

Motherly She Beaver Lyn, with helpers many

Created costumes ten a penny.

Larger than life was Colin Defries.

A hearty out-of-tune Santa and a giant piece.

The jingle bells go jingle jangle

When presents from his sack he can’t untangle.

And when it comes to the White Witch

Selena was such a delightful bitch.

And she really has powers beyond

Even opening presents with her magic wand.

Normally as mild as a barn owl

Alex kept practising his Maugrim scowl.

Paul as hairy Alsan made good roaring sounds

And his performance grew by leaps and bounds.

Katie and Hannah were leopards certain

Whose other job was to pull the curtain.

Breanna was wolf one, then a frozen unicorn.

CJ was Santa’s helper then wolf two was born.

Not fog-etting Dave the slave who saw the thaw.

Behind the scenes there weren’t too many.

Just mothers and Bill and Helen and Bob and Darren

and Penny,

And Skye maker-upper extraordinaire.

But she never got to turn me into a bear.

With Tom and Ian, the sound and light shakers,

Let’s not forget all the set and costume makers,

Publicity and Front-of-House, many takers.

Thank you all, it was a rage,

For my debut on Nowra Players’ stage.

Now as we go our separate ways,

Whatever they teach you at school these days,

Don’t despair, don’t get tragic.

Just take with you a little Narnia magic.

Maurice Pepper.
